Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories: Makarim Wibisono
In 2006 Wibisono described Israel as showing "ruthless contempt for the lives of the innocent," and perpetrating "callous attacks against terrorized and defenseless civilians". |
Rapporteur's mandate: "(a) To investigate
Israel's violations of the principles and bases of international law, international humanitarian law and the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, of 12 August 1949, in the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel since 1967; ...(c) To report...until the end of the Israeli occupation of those territories..." (Commission on Human Rights Resolution
1993/2)
"[T]he following general criteria will be of paramount importance while nominating, selecting and appointing mandate holders: (a) expertise; (b) experience in the field of the mandate; (c) independency; (d) impartiality; (e) personal integrity; (f) objectivity". (Human Rights Council
Decision 6/102 Follow-up to Human Rights Council resolution 5/1, September 27, 2007)
Term of office: May 8, 2014-March 31, 2016 Makarim Wibisono already holds these views on Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian (Arab-Israeli) conflict: - "For nearly a month now we have witnessed massive and indiscriminate Israeli air strikes...Such callous attacks against terrorized and defenseless civilians...are criminal acts which no argument strategic or otherwise can morally or legally justify. This aggression...shows a ruthless contempt for the lives and fundamental human rights of an innocent civilian population including women and children...Even UN personnel have not escaped the carnage." (Statement by Makarim Wibisono at the Second Special Session of the UN Human Rights Council, August 11, 2006)
- Until January 2014 (and his application for the job) Wibisono was "active in the private sector as an advisor to the Third World Network." That NGO spews out hysterical antisemitic vitriol – such as, Israel is guilty of "bestiality, barbarity," AIPAC pays "cash and other perks" for "towing the Zionist line," and "the US plays the role of God in modern times" holding "back the sun to enable Israel...to finish the job" against its Arab victims.
- In 2010 Wibisono went to Gaza to show support for Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization.
